Senior Director UI/UX, NIO GmbH

UI vs. AI

These days, digital objects are behaving more and more like humans and trough AI they can intelligently think and act.  Devices that behave human-like and think ahead still provoke uncomfortable and skeptic feelings in us and yet, there are appliances we completely trust.

Have you ever wondered why it is easier for us to adapt to some technologies and why we are mistrustful of others? The key is UI/UX design, a discipline targeted at creating a look and feel that enables us a seamless and enjoyable product usage.

By now AI has not fully arrived, but it is slowly and steadily introducing itself.

For the Chinese electric vehicle company NIO, AI says “Hello” in the form of NOMI, the car driver’s smart companion.

Kaveh joined NIO in 2015 and is responsible for all aspects of HMI and associated interfaces. British creative talent, Kaveh brings a unique combination of design, engineering and digital media experience to the challenge of user interface and user experience at NIO.

For the past seven years, he has led interdisciplinary design teams focused on product innovation through digitalization and design. Before joining NIO’s new Design Centre Kaveh worked with Designit in Munich. Over his four years there he developed the UI/UX team into the core offering of the business, serving clients such as Huawei, Audi, Neusoft, BMW, Samsung Bosch and the Star Alliance Group. A graduate of the London College of Communications and University of the Arts, where he studied interactive media, he is now a visiting lecturer at Umea Institute of Design in Sweden.
